The site looks worth a try. Our primary interest is birds. We have five Quaker parrots and one splay legged sun conure which we rescued. We are not looking to buy or sell, but if there are other bird lovers here, we have experience in raising them from the egg onward. We are always willing to listen to problems and offer the benefit of what we have learned.
The welcome message seems to address the issue of spam and we do hope that doesn’t become an issue. I know first hand from moderating another site that spam can and will drive members away.
